Italica Tour in Seville

Italica was the first roman city founded in the Iberian Peninsula in the year 206 a.C. The Italica archaeological complex is located in Santiponce, Seville. The guided tour of Italica covers the remains of the extension carried out in the high imperial period, under the command of Adriano (117-138 AD).

It is the amphitheater of Italica, which was one of the largest in the Roman Empire, with a capacity about 25,000 spectators. In addition, Italica has also been the key stage for the Game of Thrones series, becoming the Roman theater of Italica in “Pozo Dragón” in season 6.

Italica World Heritage

The Italica Archaeological Complex was declared a National Monument to the Italica Ruins in 1912 to guarantee its conservation. Today the roman city of Italica can be declared a World Heritage in 2020.

Italica ruins were the cradle of the emperors Trajan and Hadrian, and point of origin of many of the senators of the time. In addition, Italica is widely known for its spectacular amphitheater and its roman theater.

Currently, the Archaeological Ensemble of Italica shows its thousands of visitors the splendid Roman amphitheater and gives the possibility of walking through the layout of what were its streets, knowing the houses, public buildings and art objects.

Also the Italica´s ruins host shows such as the International Dance Festival Italica, the functions of the Roman Theaters cycle of Andalusia or is the scene of sequences of the famous series Game of Thrones.

With a capacity of 25,000 spectators and total measures of 160 x 137 m, it had three levels of grandstand. Under the level of the old wooden floor of the amphitheater of Itálica there was a service pit for the different gladiator shows, called “munus gladiatorum” and fights against wild beasts, called “venationes”.
